ABC (short for American Broadcasting Company) is a US television network that was acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 1995. The network was founded in 1943 and first started airing television programs in 1948.
Prior to Disney's acquisition of the network, episodes of Darkwing Duck and Goof Troop were broadcast on Saturday mornings on ABC, in addition to the episodes that premiered on The Disney Afternoon block. The Darkwing and Goof Troop episodes that premiered on ABC would then be integrated into their respective syndication packages after the season in which they premiered. These episodes were prefaced by title sequences unique to the ABC broadcasts, which were unfortunately plastered over by the syndicated intros after moving to the syndicated package.
In 1996, after Disney acquired ABC, Mighty Ducks and Gargoyles: The Goliath Chronicles were aired as part of the Saturday morning block. Unlike Darkwing and Goof Troop, neither show's Saturday morning episodes would be integrated into their syndication packages, as the Disney Afternoon brand came to an end the following year, and Mighty Ducks and Gargoyles were both dropped from weekday afternoons. However, Disney's practice of simultaneously premiering episodes of their shows in weekday afternoon syndication and on ABC's Saturday mornings would continue into the One Saturday Morning-era with 101 Dalmatians: The Series in 1997, Hercules in 1998, Recess in 1999 (following the start of the Disney's One Too block), Buzz Lightyear of Star Command in 2000, and The Legend of Tarzan in 2001.
In 1997, reruns of DuckTales were added to ABC's Saturday morning line-up as a mid-season replacement for Gargoyles, airing from April 19th to August 30th.
