"Dynamite will be expanding its existing partnership with Disney (Darkwing Duck) to include the fan-favorite DuckTales, the core Duck title featuring Huey, Dewie and Louie, Uncle Scrooge and the rest of the cast. The title will launch before the end of the year, with the first issue featuring a cover by legendary Disney illustrator Ivan Bigarella. Stories in the duck mythos were the keystone of Disney’s iconic, best-selling comics from the 1940s through the early 1970s, and Dynamite says it hopes to extend the legacy of creators like Carl Barks and Don Rosa in the upcoming series.[1]"
This comic, which is being written by Brandon Montclare and Tommaso Ronda, will mark the the first new canon project set in the original "Disney Afternoon universe" since the cancellation of Joe Books' Darkwing Duck comic seven years earlier, and the first new project for the original DuckTales since the DuckTales Remastered video game in 2013 (unless one counts the characters' cameo appearances in the aforementioned Darkwing Duck comic).
The ridiculously wealthy Scrooge McDuck is the most famous resident of Duckburg-but his fortune goes far beyond mere currency. To his young nephews, "Unca" Scrooge is rich in something even more important than money stories! Whether it's the saga of how he dug his first million out of the Klondike, or the many times he saved his lucky Number One Dime from the clutches of Magica De Spell, the feisty tycoon is a font of mesmerizing tales and Huey, Dewey, and Louie can't get enough! But even as they pester their Uncle to share more yarns of his legendary quests and globetrotting treasure hunts, the three boys are about to learn that the most valuable item Scrooge McDuck owns isn't locked up in his absurdly capacious Money Bin -it's the lifetime of wisdom he's got stockpiled inside his head!
Over the years, Scrooge McDuck has invested in every kind of industry that turns a profit, from tea farming to sturgeon fishing to uranium mining. So it only stands to reason that he's also the owner of Duckburg's premiere movie house, the Scrooge-A-Rama Dome, which he built to be to most palatial of motion picture palaces - inspired by both the grandeur of the Colosseum in Rome and the chance to charge top-dollar admission fees! But something is amiss with the Dome's receipts, and the explanations from the projectionist and the ticket clerk, Messrs. Franks and Beans, aren't adding up. When Scrooge and his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie pay the theater a visit to find out more, everybody is in for a surprise when the true tale behind its fiduciary discrepancies is revealed!
For as long as Scrooge McDuck has been a successful tycoon, he’s had to deal with swindlers, burglars, and every other kind of chiseler who wants to get their hands on his hard-earned fortune. And leading the pack of scheming miscreants that hound his every step are the infamous Beagle Boys – most of whom are now cooling their heels in Duckburg’s jail. As he leads his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie into the city, Uncle Scrooge tells them about an early encounter he had with the Boys’ criminal matriarch, Ma Beagle – and how that has lead directly to their new mission: infiltrating the prison that the gang now calls home!
They say that wisdom is the greatest of riches, and there's a wealth of it to be found on the shelves of the Duckburg Library. But Huey, Dewey, Louie, and their Uncle Scrooge are looking for something more tangible in the depths of its historic stacks - a forgotten map to the world's greatest treasure! The hunt reminds Uncle Scrooge of an adventure from his early days with a young pilot named Launchpad McQuack, which he relates to the boys while they search for the map. All this racket draws the ire of the head librarian, Miss Bookbeak - who may hold the key finding their hidden quarry!
With the help of Duckburg's head librarian, Miss Bookbeak, Scrooge McDuck and his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie have found the location of the greatest treasure in the world on a long-forgotten map - and it turns out to be right in their own backyard! After spending days exploring every corner of Duckburg, from its prisons to its movie palaces, the quartet of eager entrepreneurs set off to claim their final prize at the spot marked "X" - with Uncle Scrooge providing a history of the monument they're making for along the way!
