The Disney Afternoon Wiki

"I might not be your little boy anymore, but I'll always be your son."
—Max's message to his father, An Extremely Goofy Movie.

Maximilian "Max" Goof is Goofy's son, featured in Goof Troop and the movies spun off from them. He originated, with a completely different design, in the 1951 short Fathers Are People and remained a regular in the 1950s Goofy shorts as Goofy Jr., before being reintroduced with his current name and design on Goof Troop.

Personality[]

Max loves his dad, but gets embarrassed whenever he gets clumsy. He is also not above lying to make sure Goofy doesn't ruin his plans for fame and fortune.

On his bad side, Max is a cunning manipulator. Whenever he has a plan, he normally uses his manipulative abilities on P.J., who found his mental influencing questionable.[1]

Skills and abilities[]

Physical abilities[]

Max is a professionally good at skateboarding, claiming years later that it was his "best event".[2] He is also greatly skilled on rollerblades[3] and above decent at riding a bike.[4] When he isn't on his skateboard, he is shown to be acrobatic doing a flip off a brick wall[5] and pulling off a big stunt in the neighborhood while in his teens.[6] On a few occasions, Max has survived severe accidents such as collapsing through a skateboard ramp (though he was on top of his best friend)[7], crashing after the stroller he was in went downhill[8], and being grabbed by his father while skateboarding and falling off the ramp.[9] In the video-game, he goes faster than his father. In terms of combat, Max can only take on a bully physically with P.J.'s assistance, and together, they put up a pretty good fight against Leech before being knocked out.[10]

Mental abilities[]

Max has been shown to have some skills in mechanics, having built a machine to help his best friend which dispensed chocolate when he got a question right, and an egg when he got it wrong.[11] Max even claimed in one episode that "most people are techno-wimps", with himself being an exception. He proved this when wiring up Pete's VCR and television set to a camera with a distant long cord.[12] He also knew naturally how to plug cords to install a video-game, although not reading the instructions caused a temporary issue and it also caused Pete to fuse with a fly.

He is also good at lying and deception, having fooled Goofy, and even Pete, on multiple occasions. However, in some cases, his lies will have their limits.[11][5][6]

Miscellaneous skills[]

On some occasions, he has disguised himself and fooled a lot of people. On one of these occasions, he pretended to be his dad, noting that he "looked just like him", as he had been told.[7] On another occasion, he disguised himself as an alien for a science project, then as a scientist.[12] He has also disguised himself as a doctor[11], an elderly woman[5] and a Powerline impersonator[6].

In one of the Goof Family episodes, after initially struggling to play his violin, he eventually finds out why he played so badly and plays in a perfect tune, just before one of the strings break.[13]

Biography[]

Max was raised in a single parent home by his father Goofy. It is unknown what happened to his mother, although it's implied that she may passed away. After Goofy gets his diploma, they move out of the RV and out of the city and into Spoonerville. They arrive at the Pete family's home and Max meets P.J., and soon, they become best friends. Since then, they had many adventures together, with some mishaps along the way. As he grew up, everyone was making fun of him, and it motivated him to pull off a stunt to impress a girl he liked. But he had trouble with his father, who seemingly always ruined his plans. But they make up while going down a waterfall and dance with Powerline. Max apologized to Roxanne for lying from before, and they start dating each other.
